Australia will celebrate Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Friday 28 October 2022.
Growing up, we all have memories of our favorite teachers, who helped shape us as individuals, as well as our interests and future career paths. That’s why, on World Teachers’ Day it’s important to recognise the vital roles Teachers play in influencing and educating young people.
Celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide, World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society.
World Teachers’ Day is held internationally on 5 October. As the day usually falls during the Australian school holidays, Australia celebrates on the last Friday in October.

About World Teachers Day 2022
The theme this year is “Hats off to teachers”. Whether you are a beginning teacher, an experienced leader or you are a part of the broader education community, you can celebrate being part of a remarkable profession by posting a “hats off” selfie on social media, either on your own or with your colleagues. Use these tags: #WTD2022 @aitsl
Australia’s teachers, we recognise the resilience you have demonstrated during these challenging times, all so you can give Australian students the best future possible.
So, if like us, you would like to take the opportunity to say, “hats off to you”, to all Educators, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Headmasters, Lecturers et al. Then we encourage you to share your “hats off” selfie and take part in the celebration.
