Young scientists are being given the chance to star in a reality game show alongside an elite athlete to compete for the right to be crowned in the 2020 Innovation Games Champions.

Children aged 10-15 with a passion for science are invited to enter in a fun and creative online video series for their chance at stardom. Four teams, each comprising one elite athlete and one young scientist, will compete against each other and the clock for ultimate honours.

Entries for the 2020 contest must be received by 20 July 2020. Enter here.

Challenges will be part-science, part-sport and all filmed at various locations at Sydney Olympic Park. The action will be screened online via Sydney Olympic Park’s ‘Park LIVE’ platform during National Science Week.

Now in its fourth year, the annual Sydney Olympic Park Innovation Games is a marquee event of National Science Week, traditionally staged as a free one-day sports science expo at Cathy Freeman Park. Event restrictions have meant this year the Games will have their own innovative twist.

Host of The Innovation Games series, and Science Communicator, Lee Constable.

The Innovation Games series will be hosted by TV presenter, author and STEM+ communicator Lee Constable, fresh from her four-year stint hosting science program Scope on Network 10. Lee said the opportunity to bring the sports and science worlds together at an iconic location such as Sydney Olympic Park was an exciting prospect.

“Each challenge, built around scientific principals, will require an element of mental and physical skill, but also be incredibly fun. Each team will be unique. On one hand we will have an elite athlete with a specific set of skills, and on the other we will have a school student coming at it with a completely different perspective. It should make for great viewing,” Lee said.

She said challenges would involve building items then testing them in a range of situations including building a raft and then having to sail it across the pool at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

“If teams don’t get the science right, they will struggle to win the challenge. It could be a case of sink or swim in some challenges!”

How to enter:

To enter for the chance to be one of four competitors cast, children aged between 10 and 15 need to create a video no longer than 60 seconds explaining why they love science.

They should then fill in an entry form at www.innovationgames.com.au by midnight on July 20 and wait for the call that could change their life!

Filming takes place between July 30-31 with the Games to air on Park LIVE over 5 days during National Science, from August 15-23.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority coordinates the Innovation Games, which is supported by the Australian Government, Department of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources under Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme – National Science Week Grants.
